The Awesome Sofa

Rob’s vacation started a week ago and we’ve been quite busy, so I’ve been online only once or twice and not long enough to write a post. He doesn’t normally have much time off at all. Not that his boss won’t let him, but he’d rather work, and even when he’s not at work, he’ll find something to do at home. He’s now at the pub with some friends, so after doing dishes and sorting laundry, I have some time left to write a post before he gets home.

Rob’s mother arrived last Wednesday and we spent most of the three days that she was with us shopping for plants and a new sofa. The garden is now officially finished and Rob’s not showing any detox symptoms yet, so that’s good. We bought some new indoor plants as well, of which this one is my favourite:

And Rob’s mother bought me something that I really wanted to have but that Rob wouldn’t let me buy, so his mother snuck off and bought it for me before he could do anything about it, ha!

Now, any of you who have gone shopping for a new sofa with your spouse before should know how hard it is to find one that you both like. That probably goes for any other piece of furniture, but I wouldn’t know. Eventually there was this one sofa that we both fell in love with. It was a Stressless, so quite pricey, but we figured it would probably last a lifetime, and who cares anyway, because IT’S AWESOME. We talked to a salesman, he gave us all the necessary information and we went home to do some measuring.

That is when we came to the realisation that our house is too small. It’s an 80s house and apparently people back then didn’t mind not having an awesome sofa so they made their living rooms too small. Well, we did mind, or at least I did. Rob quickly gave up hope and said that we should just look for another one. I got a bit pissy, but we talked about it in the morning and agreed that it just wouldn’t work, even though deep inside I still thought that it would.

Rob’s mother left on Saturday. Rob, Bart and I went to a festival, but all I could think about all day was the damn sofa. So, the next day, I drew a picture of our living room with the sofa in it, and the inconceivable happened: Rob changed his mind. We went back to the store yesterday and ordered the Awesome Sofa. It should be delivered in about twelve weeks, which seems like forever but at least it will give us plenty of time to sell our Chesterfields for a reasonable price.

Pictures of the garden will follow when the weather’s a bit nicer. I guess the weather gods decided that we didn’t deserve another nice July, since last year’s was so wonderful and all we did was complain about the heat.

I never, ever want to think about the problems CJ & I would encounter buying furniture. He’d want some old-fashioned ‘old man’ sofa while I’d go for something ultra modern and funky. We’d probably settle on a boring black leather 3 seater knowing us!

But yay for getting the awesome sofa! Any pics? I’m nosy about other people’s furniture!
